The Essex flag is probably one of the more truly historic as it shows three Saxon Seaxes or swords on it which was the emblem of the old Saxon Kings of Essex.
The Seaxes all have a gold hillt. Essex was nearly twice as big as the modern county and the coat of arms possibly the oldest of all county flags. The flag itself is free to use, but if the emblems on the flag are placed on a red shield the resultant shield is registered with the college of heralds as copyright to Essex County Council. The flag is not copyright. |
