Lancashire was formed as a county in 1182, although it was then actually pasrt of Cheshire.

Since then the county has had many border changes and is much smaller in it's modern form.

The red rose featurs in alot of coats of arms in the county. The red rose was the emblem of the Duchy of Lancaster during the wars of the roses.

Unlike it's rival the Yorkshire rose, Lancashire's rose sits on 2 points.

Much like their great rivals Yorkshire, the Lancastrians have updated their flags to this new design which has a yellow background.  Again I am not sure why they did this,if anyone knows please contact me!
