East Anglia whilst not a modern county is an ancient, Saxon Kingdom, or to put it more exactly it was an Angle Kingdom hence the name. The flag is basically a Cross of StGeorge but with three crowns in the centre. This emblem relates to King Edmund, latterly Saint Edmund who was the last King of East Anglia. Edmund was killed, martyred by the Danes when they invaded east Anglia. The East Anglians then lived under the Danelaw (Danish was st but the Saxons revered Edmund who was buried at Bury StEdmunds. East Anglia covers Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire.
There is also a StEdmund flag which is also produced commercially. St Edmund went on to become patro saint of England before St George and there is a push to get him reinstated. The flag below has only one crown and it claims to be more historically correct than the three crowns.
